Living the Life - Ginger's Story

Some cats choose their people - and Ginger made it clear from day one that she was here to stay.

On a rainy December afternoon (December 22, 2022, to be exact), a kind customer spotted a small, soaking-wet orange-and-white tabby cat huddled in the DeWayne's parking lot. One look was all it took. Our hearts melted, and life at DeWayne's was never the same again.

Fast-forward to today and Ginger is the undisputed queen of our Garden Center and Atrium. True to her spicy name, she's known for her sass, confidence, and playful antics. She does exactly what she wants and our customers wouldn't have it any other way.

You can often find Ginger lounging in sunny plant displays, pouncing out from behind a pot to startle unsuspecting shoppers, or chasing moths with kitten-like enthusiasm (yes - we even caught a video). When she's feisty, those ears fold straight back... a fair warning before she dashes off into the greenery. When she is in the mood, she'll happily accept a scratch behind the ears - but if not, she'll simply turn her back with a swish of her tail and saunter away without a second glance.

When she’s ready for a break, she disappears through her “secret” cat door, where a cozy bed and full food bowl await. Thanks to her handy AirTag, we can always keep tabs on her wanderings - not that she listens to our suggestions on where to go!

Visitors have fallen in love with her bold personality, signature eye rolls, and the way she rules her garden kingdom with a fluffy iron paw. Just don’t disturb her during nap time... unless you want “the look.”

Ginger may have arrived at DeWayne’s by surprise, but now we can’t imagine life without her. She brings smiles, laughter, and a little extra magic to every shopping trip, and we’re so grateful she chose us to be her forever family.

Ginger may love her naps, but don't let that fool you, she's always ready for excitement. One of her favorite pastimes in the Garden Center is chasing after anything that flutters by, especially moths. In this clip, you'll catch Ginger in full "hunt mode," showing off her playful, feisty side as she leaps into action. It's these moments that make her such a joy for our team and our customers to watch!
